What is a Grading

The Executive

In order to study SMR the practitioner must obtain their next belt/rank by attending and successfully acheiving the required level set by the styles seniors.
The student will be notified either weeks (or months for senior level gradings) that they are about be tested. The grading is aspecial session (or class) were they will demostarte what they have learnt and they they are ready to progress to teh next level.

Grade rank/structure:

7th Kyu - White Belt
6th Kyu - Yellow Belt
5th Kyu - Orange Belt
4th Kyu - Green Belt
3rd Kyu - Purple Belt
2nd Kyu -Blue Tag
1st Kyu - Brown Belt

1st Dan - Black Belt (1 Red bar/mon)
2nd Dan- Black Belt (2 Red bar/mon)
3rd Dan- Black Belt (3 Red bar/mon)
4th Dan- Black Belt (4 Red bar/mon)
5th Dan - (Red and Black belt)

The time period between each grade will increase as a person progresses through the grading structure.

As a person progresses through the ranks, they will have proven their skills in Jiu Jitsu and therefore be exposed to harder training, more difficult principles and techniques.

Each grading will be headed by a higher ranking instructor. The rank of the instructor depends on the grading. All gradings for green belt and above are taken in a national format by the head of style, to maintain standards across the country.

Gradings should be seen as a ratification of knowledge and skills obtained and not as a test pass.
